Before you come in
Electrolysis Pre-treatment Care Guide
-
Hair Length
Let your hair grow out to about 1/8 to 1/4 inch, usually about 3 days of growth. Your electrologist needs enough length to easily grab the hair with tweezers. If it gets too long between treatments you can trim or shave the hair but please refrain from plucking them out.
-
Hydration
Keeping your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water, is an important part of an electrolysis treatment. This will help the follicles have plenty of moisture in them needed for the electrolysis process to work while also minimizing discomfort.
-
Skin prep
Daily moisturizing is essential. It helps keep the skin hydrated and helps the probe enter the follicle easily. The day before your appointment exfoliate your skin, this will clear any debris from around the follicle opening and make insertions easier and your session more productive as well.
-
Things to avoid
Refrain from drinking coffee or caffeinated beverages the day of your treatment as these will dehydrate your skin. Caffeine can also increase anxiety and sensitivity and make your treatment less comfortable. If you must consume coffee to avoid withdrawal symptoms please drink as minimal as possible and drink some water as well to minimize dehydration.
-
Sensitive areas
If your treatment is in a more sensitive area using over the counter pain relievers and numbing creams 30 min before your session can help minimize discomfort.
-
Mindset
Getting your mind on a positive wavelength can go a long way in reducing anxiety and discomfort. Take a few moments before you come in and take some deep breaths and find your center. A relaxed mind makes for a more relaxed body and a more comfortable session.
